PROJECT PORTFOLIOS

Brinny-tones Dementia Choir

A large part of our work at SoundUp is making music and singing accessible to people with dementia and their carers across Manchester. The SoundUp Brinny-Tones Choir is a dementia choir formed in 2019, made up of residents from Brinnington Care Home in Stockport. We have a fantastic time rehearsing together each week and the choir has become a highlight of the residents’ week at Brinnington.

The Brinny-tones Performances

The SoundUp Brinny-Tones have performed in some landmark Manchester venues since they formed.  In  2019  they  performed in Chetham's Stoller Hall as part of Festival 50, and the Royal Northern College of Music’s Carole Nash Recital Room. In 2020 the choir was invited to sing at Manchester Cathedral. They are true advocates of the joy brought through singing, and our choir is looking forward to many more exciting performances ahead.

The Brinny-tones Christmas Concert

In December 2019 we celebrated the wonderful work our SoundUp dementia choir has achieved across their first year in a celebratory community concert at the Royal Northern College of Music. We performed in the Carol Nash Recital Room, sharing our favourite pieces, songs we composed together as a choir as well as some Christmas carol sing-alongs. We had a lovely big audience of over 50 people who come to support us and were joined by 12 RNCM student volunteers on the night. We are very grateful to have fundraised money from this concert, which was reinvested in bringing more creative and musical activities to the residents at Brinnington Care Home. Here is a very special performance from one of our choir members in the concert, Joyce, who loves to sing, and comes alive in the choir.
