MEET THE ARTISTS

Nikolaos Maridis is a 21-year-old, final year bachelor student at the Royal  Northern College of Music studying with Petr Prause. He moved to the UK at the age of 16, receiving a music scholarship at Millfield School.

He has been playing the cello since the age of 5, joining the New Conservatoire of Thessaloniki where he played with different musicians, participated on large orchestral projects and performed in various recitals.

Moving to the UK he studied with Lucy Scotchmer, exploring a different music styles, from baroque to contemporary. During his last year of school he became a member of the 'Millfield Piano trio' where they participated on various competitions around the country, winning the first prize at the Midsomerset festival.

From September 2017 he moved to Manchester, for his higher education. At the RNCM he became a member of the 'Theseus Quartet', performing at the RNCM’s chamber music festival and getting involved with various external engagements. During the academic year he performs on different events and projects organised RNCM, such as, Symphony Orchestra, Brand New Orchestra and New Ensemble. Furthermore he has received lessons and masterclasses by renowned teachers, including, Miklos Perenyi, Leonard Elschenbroich, Vashti Hunter, Jonian Ilias Kadesha. In his second year he received The Shirley Cattarall Award.

He has participated in various masterclasses and courses around Greece, on different fields, historical performance, chamber music and solo. Since 2015 he has been taking part at the 'Pelion Festival' receiving tuition from experienced teachers such as, Ulrich Voss, Angelos Liakakis and Vasilis Saitis. There is

a variety of ensembles which he gets involved, such as, cello orchestra, chamber music and solo performances.
